I -- along with many others around the world -- was asked by the Museum's new director, Olivia Gall, and by Trotsky's grandson, Esteban Volkov, to help raise funds for the Trotsky Museum in Mexico City.

Our strategy — based on the lessons of Marxism and the experience of 400-plus years of struggle by Blacks, immigrants, and indigenous communities — is centered around support for self-determination combined with the fight for working class unity and independence, as part of the overall political struggle for a workers’ revolution to overthrow capitalism, which is the precondition for the eradication of racial oppression in this country and throughout the world.

Racism was originated to justify and preserve a slave-labor system that operated in the interests of capitalism in its pre-industrialist stages, and it was retained in slightly modified form by industrial capitalism after slavery became an obstacle to the further development of capitalism and had to be abolished. Few things in the world are more distinctly stamped with the mark of capitalism.

The AFL-CIO leadership has chosen, instead, to play an "inside" game with the Obama administration -- which, in practice, has meant going along with all the anti-labor policies implemented by Obama and the Democratic Party leadership. As Washington Post columnist Harold Meyerson noted in February, "For American labor, year one of Barack Obama's presidency has been close to an unmitigated disaster."

With the strike of workers of Honda in Foshan, a turning point may have occurred in the situation in China. For years the strikes have been extremely numerous. But the strike at Foshan contains new elements, both in its demands and in its form of organization.

The struggle of the Palestinian people is one of the most advanced expressions of the struggle of the peoples of the world to get rid of oppression and exploitation. We reaffirm that the only way to conquer the sovereignty of nations is the alliance of workers with the peasants and the dispossessed masses.

On April 1, 2010 it was publicly announced that the district attorney for Yolo County, California, has reopened the investigation into the death of young Luis Gutierrez Navarro. The announcement reveals the institutional cover-up of a case of flagrant injustice.

Several days have been enough for the situation to become apparent in all its clarity : in the unfolding events, it isn’t only Greece that is in question, but also the fate of all the peoples of Europe.
