Pasaron las elecciones especiales del 19 de Mayo 2009 y la crisis presupuestaria del Estado de California continúa. Con las elecciones, el Gobernador Arnold Schwarzenegger buscaba equilibrar la crisis presupuestaria del Estado de California con un déficit estimado de $21.3 miles de millones de dólares. En realidad las elecciones especiales no resolverían el problema porque las propuestas en juego no tocan la raíz del problema.

The computer and the Internet have changed the way in which production is organized, not the capitalist mode of production.  Computers and the Internet are not saving capitalism from debacle, as it is shown increasingly.  Nor will they save us for that matter. Only drastic social change in the way and reasons why work is organized and performed will truly make the internet and computers a truly open source.

True to form, some on the right now decry Obama's stimulus package as nothing less than the triumph of socialism in America. “Lenin and Stalin would love this stuff,” former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee told a recent meeting of the Conservative Political Action Conference. Not that the huckster Huckabee has any serious ideas about how to solve the run of mortgage foreclosures or rising unemployment. Or, for that matter, the crisis of capitalism itself.

The May 9 Teach-In to "Bail Out Working People -- NOT the Banks!" was a big success. The turnout was significant -- a total of 322 participated throughout the course of the afternoon. Most important the presentations and the discussion from the floor dealt with the fundamental challenges to the labor movement and its community allies in this new situation of deepening economic crisis.
